A hippo has sadly killed Malam Usman Maigadi. He was a guard at Orchard Farm. This farm belongs to the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi.
The News Agency of Nigeria says the hippo might have thought Malam Usman was trying to harm its baby. So, the hippo attacked to protect its baby.
Malam Usman was 60 years old. The hippo attacked him on Sunday. It happened while he was fishing in the Yauri River at Tillo Village. This village is in the Yauri Local Government Area.
Alhaji Abubakar Shu’aibu, the Chairman of the Local Government, said that Malam Usman has been buried according to Islamic customs in Yauri. People prayed for him at his funeral.
Gov. Nasir Idris also shared his sympathy. In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, the Governor sent his condolences to the Yauri Emirate and Malam Usman’s family.
Gov. Idris asked everyone to be strong and accept what Allah has willed. The Governor prayed for Allah to forgive Malam Usman’s mistakes and to grant him a place in Jannatul Firdaus (paradise).
