The Labour Party (LP) says Kenneth Okonkwo is like a spy, so his leaving the party was not a surprise.
The Party also said Okonkwo’s comments about their 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, were sad and just to get attention.
DAILY POST shared that Okonkwo, who was an important person in the LP, said on Sunday that he no longer believes Obi can lead a party to win elections.
Okonkwo, who is an actor turned politician, said Obi has shown that even if people vote for him, he won’t be able to take charge.
He also said that what has been going on in the party recently made him decide to start a new path in his political life.
In response, the National Publicity Secretary of the LP, Obiora Ifoh, said in a statement that Okonkwo’s leaving the party did not surprise them.
Ifoh said the party thinks Okonkwo’s criticism of Obi is sad and just a way to seek attention.
“Kenneth Okonkwo leaving the Labour Party didn’t surprise us. We also think his attack on our leader, Peter Obi, is just sad,”
“But we will not respond to him because we know he just wants more attention,” he said.
The LP spokesperson also said the party will continue to support Obi as their presidential candidate for 2027.
