As part of its preparation for the 2025 Hajj operations, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) on Thursday inaugurated a committee to review the National Medical Team Guidelines.

Inaugurating the committee, the NAHCON Commissioner in charge of Personnel, Research, Statistics, Information and Library Service (PRSILS), Professor Abubakar Yagawal, expressed confidence in the abilities of the team members to execute the assigned task.

Yagawal reminded the members that they were carefully chosen for the task, adding that the outcome of the task given to them would be for the benefit of Nigerian pilgrims who are guests of Allah in the Holy Land.

Responding on behalf of the members, the committee chairman, Dr. Saidu Ahmad Dumbulwa, reaffirmed his commitment to adapt and implement the new directives effectively.

While highlighting the annual nature of the updates, the president assured that the team is well prepared to handle the changing responsibilities.

“I warmly welcome you all and congratulate you for being part of this important effort. In shaa Allah, I am confident in your ability to contribute to our success. May Almighty Allah guide and assist us in all our endeavours,” he said.

Dr Dumbuwal acknowledged the vital role played by medical experts and stakeholders in achieving past successes and emphasized the importance of inclusivity and collaboration in addressing the committee's terms of reference.

He expressed his gratitude to Professor Yagawal for inaugurating the committee.

He continued: “This is not the first time we have taken on such a mandate. Last year, we faced similar challenges and achieved remarkable results through collaboration and experience.

“I'm confident we can replicate and surpass those successes.”

Dumbuwal promised that the committee, which will deliberate on critical health strategies for the coming year, would provide a platform for robust debates and actionable outcomes.

Other speakers at the event expressed optimism that the work and deliberations of the review committee offered potential to shape health policies and ensure seamless implementation of the 2025 health guidelines in time for 2025 Hajj operations.

The review committee, composed of medical experts, policymakers and relevant stakeholders, has the responsibility to: Review the 2025 guidelines and refine implementation strategies; forecast and evaluate drug and consumable costs, both onshore and offshore; align medical benefits with international standards and disseminate and ensure compliance with new Saudi medical policies.

The committee also aims to address cardiovascular health and other medical concerns, while ensuring compliance with the general policies of the Federal Ministry of Health.

Additionally, it is responsible for establishing robust emergency medical services in the camps, with the support of the Federal Ministry of Health; train medical personnel and selected participants for effective service delivery and improve coordination between federal and state agencies under unified leadership.
