Gunmen Attack in Benue: Six Dead, Buildings Destroyed

On Wednesday, a group of armed men attacked the villages of Ayati and Borikyo in the Ukum area of Benue State.

Reports say that six people died and many others were hurt during the attack.

Local people shared that these armed men came into the village on Wednesday afternoon. They began shooting at people and burned down public buildings, including the office of the Ukum Local Government.

Many villagers ran to escape, but some were not lucky and were hit by bullets, getting injured.

The attackers also burned the house of an important person, Paul Biam. He works closely with the governor and lives in Zaki Biam.

After the attack, the villagers gathered to block the Sankera-Ayati-Sai Road. They were very upset and wanted to show their anger about the repeated attacks on their homes.

During the protest, they burned down the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ukum Local Government Area.

The police spokesperson, DSP Sewuese Anene, confirmed the sad news that six people lost their lives and many were wounded.

She explained, “When we heard about the attack, the police and other security teams rushed to the scene. They fought back against the attackers and eventually pushed them away.”

Meanwhile, a local senator named Emmanuel Udende has spoken out against the attack. He asked the security forces to find the criminals and bring them to justice.
