On Saturday, some bad people with guns stopped cars on the busy Gusau-Funtua road and took some travelers.
These bad people stood between the villages of Kucheri and Magazu in Tsafe, firing guns at cars driving by.
The police in Zamfara, through their spokesperson ASP Yazid Abubakar, said that some travelers were taken. The police, along with other protectors, are now working together to find and save them.
“The event took place this afternoon,” said Abubakar. “These bad people stopped the road and shot at the people. They took some away. We are working very hard to bring those taken back safely.”
He also mentioned that it’s not true that five policemen were taken during a fight with these bad people.
These armed groups have been causing a lot of trouble on this road lately.
Zamfara is one of the many places in north and central Nigeria where these groups cause many problems. They take people for ransom, burn homes, and steal things.
These groups have hideouts in a big forest that covers Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, and Niger. They have also taken many school children in the past years.
Last month, the groups attacked four villages in Katsina’s Sabuwa district. They killed 25 people, most of whom were trying to protect their village. This was seen as revenge because the army went after them in their hideout, according to what a local leader said.
