Governor Uba Sani has promised that all 255 primary health care centers (PHCs) in Kaduna State will be refurbished and upgraded to level 2 as part of his administration's health sector reform.
The Governor further promised that upgraded primary care centers will provide treatment for uncomplicated diabetes and hypertension, resuscitation of severe asthma and assisted delivery, as well as other essential services.
Governor Uba Sani disclosed this on Saturday at the commencement of the free distribution of essential medicines and hospital equipment to all primary care centers across the 23 local governments of Kaduna State, in Kachia City.
The governor, who said the current 255 primary health care centers in Kaduna State are the best in the country, added that his administration wants Kaduna State to be the sub-national leader in healthcare delivery in the country.
“Last Thursday, Kaduna State emerged as the best performing state in primary health care in the North West zone, according to the PHC Leadership Challenge in Abuja,” he recalled.
Sani also said that the upgraded primary care centers will be digitized and linked to general hospitals across the state, in a bid to ensure that citizens of Kaduna State have access to healthcare at all levels.
The Governor noted that among the beneficiaries of free medicines are children from one to five years old, pregnant women and disadvantaged people.
He warned against theft of health products and equipment, adding that traditional rulers, community leaders and health workers should monitor these items.
In his welcome address, the Kachia Local Government Chairman, Dr. Manzo Maigari, thanked the governor for his personal attendance at the occasion and described him as a son of the soil.
In her statement, Health Commissioner Hajiya Umma .K. Ahmad said the distribution of free medicines is an important milestone in the administration's efforts to reposition the health sector.
According to her, the distribution of free medicines will strengthen Primary Health Care and improve the overall health sector.
