Governor orders arrest of protesters

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has imposed restrictions on all public gatherings aimed at protesting within the state.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, in a statement on Wednesday, said the directive was an exercise of the authority vested in the governor as the state’s security chief.

“By virtue of his office, the governor has directed the police, the Directorate of State Security Services and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps to apprehend, detain and prosecute any individual or group participating in demonstrations in the streets of Kano.

“This decisive action is a preventive strategy aimed at avoiding any possible breakdown of law and order orchestrated by adversaries of the State.

“We are aware of credible intelligence indicating that certain prominent figures of the opposition party in Kano have hatched plans to sponsor student associations and political agitators from other North West states to incite chaos under the guise of defending the dethroned Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero. .”

“The state government has explicitly prohibited protests, demonstrations or processions of any kind and persons found on the streets of Kano engaging in such activities will be immediately detained.

“Through this statement, we warn student groups against being manipulated by troublemakers who are determined to foment disorder in Kano.”

“The governor urged all citizens of the state to continue with their normal activities while the state retains its tranquility, and the government will persist in vigilant monitoring of the situation to immediately address any individuals or factions that attempt to undermine the relative peace that the state currently has. enjoy”, highlights the statement.
