Edo State’s Governor, Godwin Obaseki, delivered a strong message on Saturday about the upcoming governorship election: it will be a ‘do-or-die’ affair.
Governor Obaseki cautioned that any cheating or unfair acts during the election could lead to serious consequences. He shared this warning while speaking at a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) rally in the Ekemwan area of the state.
“The person who was governor before me did not respect our people. He did not respect women and even supported bad things like prostitution and trafficking,” Obaseki said.
“When I became governor, many senior citizens wore black clothes on Labour Day because they were unhappy. But now, they wear white because things have improved for them.
“When I started, many young people did not have jobs. But today, many of them are employed. After eight years, is Edo not one of the safest places in Nigeria?
“This election is very serious. If they cheat, we will respond strongly. Next week Saturday, go out and vote for PDP so we can continue to improve Edo State.”
On Saturday, September 21, the people of Edo State will choose their next governor. The top candidates are Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP).
