Governor Adeleke Supports Decision to Remove Damagum as Acting PDP National Chairman Amid Party Crisis

Must Read

The leader of Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke, supports the decision made by his fellow governors in the opposition group called the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to remove the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum.

Earlier, the PDP Governors’ Forum said they want to replace Damagum with a member from the North Central region, as their party rules say.

They believe that someone from the North Central region should have taken the place of the former national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, who was removed from his position in 2022.

This decision has caused more disagreements within the party, as some governors still back Damagum.

Governor Adeleke expressed his thoughts through a message released on Thursday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed. He said he supports the PDP Governors’ Forum’s decision, where he is a key member.

Governor Adeleke also mentioned that he stands by the party’s rules which clearly outline the process to follow when an elected chairman leaves.

“Our party needs to follow its rules, especially now, to become a responsible political party,” Adeleke said.
