Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has said he is not planning to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He wants to make it clear that Rivers State is still a PDP-run state.
Governor Fubara said this because there were rumors that he might leave the party. He wanted to stop these false rumors.
Fubara repeated his loyalty to PDP when a group from the PDP Board of Trustees, led by Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, visited him at the Government House in Port Harcourt on a Tuesday.
According to his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, sometimes Governor Fubara had doubts about his place in PDP. But the visit from the Board of Trustees reassured him that he is indeed a part of the PDP family.
Governor Fubara said, “I want to thank the Chairman and Board members. If I ever had doubts about my place in this great party, today confirmed that I am still a proud member of the PDP.” He added, “I thank you for coming all the way to Rivers State to see the governor and the supporters of the party. We all here are true PDP members.”
He was also happy to see PDP leaders like Chief Bode George, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, and Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, who came to talk about the unity of the party. Fubara assured everyone that standing by PDP is the right decision.
Senator Wabara, while speaking, said that their visit aimed to solve the recent problems affecting PDP in Rivers State. He highlighted the importance of keeping the state under PDP control, as losing it would be bad for Nigeria.
Wabara said, “We, the Board of Trustees, came here for peace and unity in the PDP. We read many things in newspapers and online. But we wanted to hear the truth directly. We thank you for staying with the party. Losing Rivers State would hurt Nigeria’s future badly.”
He also mentioned that the party should not face the same difficulties it had in 2015 and 2023. Wabara emphasized that following the rule of law is crucial and that even if it takes time, it is always the right way to go.
