A tragic collapse of the mining site has claimed the lives of four miners in the Farin-Doki area of ​​the local government of Shiroro, Niger state.

It would be remembered that in April 2024, more than 50 miners were trapped in the mining well of the African minerals and limited logistics. Eight of the miners died since they could not be rescued.

In the last incident, it is said that the miners who suffered injuries in the collapse of the well are receiving treatment in a government hospital in Minna.

According to the reports, the mining site that was previously closed by the government after the previous incident, allegedly resumed operations without adequate authorization.

A source close to the GALKOGO community expressed its frustration, stating that despite the prohibition of the Government of illegal Mining, the activities have continued incessantly

“This is the third time now that the mining well is collapsing and killing our children due to the current economic difficulties that the people of the community experience,” the source lamented.

Confirming the incident, the Niger State Police Command through the Public Relations officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said on 4/13/2025 at 8:00 am, information was received that there was a collapse/fall in a mining site in the Farin-Doki area of ​​Shiroro Lga.

He explained that during the rock slides, two people were trapped that were later identified as Buhari Kano and Mallam Tasiu, both of the state of Kano.

“The agents of the police attached to the Erena division and the members of the community mobilized to the scene for a rescue and, unfortunately, alleged lifeless bodies of the two people recovered. The bodies were taken to a hospital in Zumba.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that it was suspected that the victims had gone to the site at night for illegal mining activities, before the rock slides occurred. The incident is under a higher investigation,” police spokesman revealed.
