Four Family Members Perish in Italy Gas Explosion

Must Read

Four people from the same family, including two little kids, died because of a gas explosion that broke their home in southern Italy.

This sad event happened in Saviano, a town close to Naples. Their two-story house blew up early on a Monday morning.

The people who died were a boy, a girl, their mom, and their grandma.

Italian firefighters, called Vigili del Fuoco, said that the dad and a newborn baby were pulled out alive from the broken house.

The dad is very hurt and is in a hospital in Naples. The baby is hurt too, but not too badly, said the local news.

“The parents and their three kids lived on the first floor of the house, while the grandma lived upstairs,” the firefighters said.

Rescue teams worked all day and night to find the family. They found the mom at 4:45 PM and the grandma after midnight.

The explosion happened around 7:00 AM local time (6:00 AM BST). They are still trying to figure out why, but they think the gas might have caused it.

Drone videos from the place showed big holes in the roof and a lot of the house was turned into pieces.

More than 60 helpers came to rescue the people, using dogs to help find anyone still trapped. They worked for many hours.

The fire service shared pictures of the rescue teams carefully searching in the dark to make sure no more of the building would fall down.
