Late Saturday night, in a busy area of Birmingham where people go to have fun, there was a terrible shooting. Four people died, and more than 20 others got hurt.
This happened on 20th Street near Magnolia Avenue in a place called Five Points South. It’s a popular spot where many people go to enjoy themselves.
The Birmingham Police Department said they got calls about gunshots a little after 11pm. They quickly sent officers to check it out.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said they found “many people” with gunshot wounds. Four of them were hurt very badly.
Three of the victims—two men and one woman—died right there. Another person died later at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital.
Others who were hurt were taken to hospitals. Some of them got there in their own cars.
Officer Fitzgerald promised, “We will do everything we can to find out who did this and bring them to justice.”
So far, no one has been arrested, and the police are still trying to understand why this shooting happened.
