Rescue efforts have finished at Eke Amawbia Market in Anambra State. A one-story building with shops fell down on Thursday.
The building fell suddenly, making a loud noise. This caused panic in the area around noon.
People inside the building got trapped. So, rescue teams rushed to help them immediately.
On the same Thursday, two people were saved alive. Police officers and volunteers kept looking through the rubble until Friday to find more victims.
A person living nearby told DAILY POST that rescue efforts stopped on Friday. Unfortunately, they found four people who had died.
One of those four was a Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer. He had four kids.
The officer’s name hasn’t been shared yet. He was at the market to buy food for his family when the building fell. His oldest child, just 9 years old, and his wife, who is taking care of a baby, are now without him.
“I was close by and saw him walking to the market. We greeted each other, and he told me he was buying food for his family. Within five minutes, the building collapsed, and he was gone. It’s very sad,” the person said.
“The rescue ended yesterday, and they found three more people, but we don’t know who they are yet,” the person added.
