Former presidential candidate, Onwusoanya Ezendigbo, is upset about how much money the government spends on elections in the country.
Ezendigbo is sad because, even though a lot of money is given to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to hold elections, the elections are still often unfair.
He is also unhappy about the fighting and violence that happen during elections. He asks Nigerians to change their ways and follow the rules like other countries do.
Ezendigbo, who ran in the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria as an independent candidate, shared his thoughts in an interview with DAILY POST on Sunday.
He said, “We waste billions on elections in Nigeria. But in the end, INEC announces results that don’t show what the people really want.
“Why spend so much money on bad elections? Why should people get hurt during elections? And why do most of these cases end up in court? We should look at other democratic countries and do things differently.
“It’s sad that our economy is so bad. People are facing danger, hunger, food prices going up, and our money losing value. Our schools and other important parts of our country are also in bad shape. We need to change our way of thinking and how we do things,” he said.
Ezendigbo is also disappointed that the courts, which are supposed to help the people, are not doing a good job in making democracy better in Nigeria.
“Nigerians don’t trust the courts anymore. The courts need to be fair and careful. Many Nigerians travel and see how things are done in other countries.
“Why do almost all election results end up in court? The system is broken. We have smart people, and if Nigeria doesn’t do well, it affects all of Africa. We must work together to fix our country,” he advised.
