Five people died and twelve got hurt in a car crash on the Shiwarin-Kano road in Jigawa State.
People who saw what happened told DAILY POST that the crash occurred on Monday. A Toyota bus was driving from Kano to Azare when one of its tires burst.
The driver couldn’t control the bus, and it flipped over. Some passengers died, and others got injured.
Police spokesman DSP. Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed what happened.
He said, “The crash happened on Monday at around 11:40 PM. We got an urgent call at the Kiyawa police station about a single vehicle accident on the Shuwarin to Kano road. A Toyota bus with the plate number KTG 219 XB, driven by Alh Umar from Chinade town, was going from Kano to Azare. There were seventeen people in the bus.”
“When the bus reached a place near Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company in Shuwarin village, one of the back tires burst. The bus flipped over, and five people died.”
The people who died were Suleiman Sani, Hassan Salisu, Khalid Ibrahim, Rabiu Salihu, and Shehu Mohd, all from Chinade town.
DSP. Shiisu said that after they got the report, they went to the scene. They took the injured people and the dead bodies to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital in Dutse. Doctors there confirmed that the five people were dead.
The dead bodies were later given to their families for burial.
