News Report: Five Young Men Arrested in Adamawa State
Five young men were taken by the police in Adamawa State for allegedly stealing copper cables and a gas cylinder.
The police officers in the state caught these young men, who are between 17 and 29 years old.
The state’s Police Spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed this on Thursday. He explained that the arrests happened because the police are trying to stop crime in the area.
The names and ages of the suspects are:
- Abdulmunini Muhammad – 18 years old
- Ibrahim Ahmed – 18 years old
- Mubarak Abubakar – 29 years old
- Mahmud Ibrahim – 18 years old
- Isaac Jonah – 17 years old
These young men live in Malamre and Wauro Jabbe in Yola North Local Government Area.
Abdulmuni Muhammed is accused of breaking into a house and stealing a gas cylinder. Ibrahim Ahmed allegedly took copper cables from a petrol station. He admitted they usually burn the cables and then sell the wires to scrap collectors.
Mubarak Abubakar, Mahmud Ibrahim, and Isaac Jonah allegedly broke into a building at the same petrol station from the ceiling and stole copper cables. They also planned to sell these cables to scrap collectors.
Recently, the state government banned scavenging, and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri announced this ban last month. Because of this, the state police promised to take strong actions against scrap collectors.
