The Federal Inland Revenue Service, or FIRS, is going to hire new tax officers in different places in Nigeria.
Even though people can’t apply yet, FIRS shared a public notice on Monday. The notice says they want to give young graduates a chance to work with them.
Soon, people in Nigeria can apply for jobs as Officer II and Officer I on the FIRS website.
“We want people who are honest and want to do well. We are looking for people who are good at thinking, solving problems, and talking with others,”
“We will share more details about how to apply, when to apply, and where to send applications on our official website soon,” it said.
We don’t know the full details about who’s eligible yet, but FIRS says everyone, no matter their gender, ethnicity, or background, should think about applying.
What Nigerians Are Saying
People are talking about the announcement on social media, especially on X, which used to be called Twitter. Some people in Nigeria think it’s a good move, but others worry it’s just for show.
“This is good. It’s the first time I’ve seen an open announcement for jobs, but I’m worried it might just be for show, and regular folks might not get the jobs. I hope it’s real and fair,” wrote a user named Ojo Samuel.

Another user called @ajaxsim1 said, “It would be amazing if FIRS truly lets regular Nigerians join the job process with honesty and fairness.”

But another user, Mazi Vion Able Odogwu, shared doubts, saying it’s already done secretly.
“They’ve already chosen people, and they’re just making it look official with this ad. Don’t waste your time,” he said.

Important Information to Know
FIRS is making this announcement only three months after the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, or NNPC, announced its own hiring.
It was the first time in five years that NNPC asked for new staff, which made people wonder if the process is truly fair and based on who deserves the job.
Even though NNPC’s hiring process isn’t finished, there were rumors about selling job slots. But NNPC says those rumors aren’t true and have nothing to do with how they hire new people.
