Fire consumes properties worth millions of naira in Ibadan shops

Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed as a result of a fire that devastated some shops in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Newslodge reported that the incident occurred at the toll plaza along the Lagos/Ibadan expressway.

The incident, according to sources, occurred in the early hours of Friday.

It was learned that at least four businesses were affected by the fire.

It was learned that properties worth millions of naira and other items had been destroyed.

No lives were lost in the incident, according to Newslodge.

The Director General of Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the development to Newslodge.

Akinyinka, while reacting, said the incident was reported to the agency at around 5:50 am.

He added that the fire was due to a naked fire that was not attended to by the woman who was cooking in one of the four businesses affected by the fire.

He said: “The fire incident was reported to our agency at exactly 05:50 on Friday, January 3, 2025.

“All four shops were destroyed by fire and several shops were saved from being affected by the fire.

“Properties worth millions of naira were affected by the fire and shops along with materials worth billions were protected from devastating fires.

“No life was lost. “It was determined that the fire was a naked fire unattended by the woman who was cooking in one of the four businesses affected by the fire.”
