FG Announces Monday as Public Holiday for Eid-ul-Mawlid Celebration

The Federal Government has announced that Monday, 16th September 2024, will be a public holiday. This day is for celebrating Eid-ul-Mawlid, which is when Muslims remember the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

This announcement was made by Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, on behalf of the government.

Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, also made an official statement on Friday. The government wants everyone to have a peaceful and thoughtful celebration during this special time.

“The Federal Government has declared Monday, 16th September, 2024 as a Public Holiday for the celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid, the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Unto Him),” the statement said.

In the message, Dr. Tunji-Ojo wished all Muslims in Nigeria and around the world a happy celebration. He encouraged everyone to think about and practice patience, sacrifice, and resilience.

The statement also highlighted that this day is important not only for Muslims but for all Nigerians. It’s a time for everyone to practice unity, patience, and sacrifice.

What the Federal Government is saying

The statement reads,

“The Federal Government has declared Monday, 16th September, 2024 as a Public Holiday to mark the Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration, the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Unto Him).

“The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made this announcement for the Federal Government and congratulated Muslims both in Nigeria and abroad.

“Dr. Tunji-Ojo asked Muslims and all Nigerians to embrace patience, sacrifice, and resilience. He also asked them to pray for lasting peace and a better country during this period.”
