FCTA offers free medical assistance for residents

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on Wednesday offered free healthcare services to more than 1,000 residents of Kuje Area Council in the capital city.

It was part of activities to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Democracy Day and the first anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s tenure.

The program, called: “Free Health Care Renewed Hope,” according to organizers, was launched to address the alarming rates of maternal and infant mortality and other major health problems in the country’s capital.

Organized by the Secretary of Health and Environmental Services of the FCTA, the intervention was supported by Smart Gas, a private company.

Representing the FCT Minister of State, Mariya Mahmoud, the Mandatory Secretary of the FCTA Environment and Health Services Secretariat, Adedolapo Fasawe, noted that the special healthcare services would not end at the outreach sites but which would be extended to all healthcare facilities in Abuja. rural communities.

He said the initiative was based on President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improve health indices across the country.

Services provided during the outreach included free consultations, medications, blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, and HIV testing and counseling.

They also provided basic prenatal care, performed eye exams, minor surgeries and nutritional education for babies, and distributed 500 gas cylinders.

Medical experts, including doctors, nurses and pharmacists, were also available to care for patients.

Mrs Fasawe said: “Today we have six different departments: prenatal care for pregnant women, general outpatient care, paediatrics and vision and dental care. We also have health insurance that will guarantee that even after today you will continue to have access to health.

“This government plans to renew hope. We have more than 1000 people here and we have assured them that our doctors and services are very fast.

“It is renewed hope for everyone. President Tinubu’s government is working to ensure that our health indices improve. “It is no longer acceptable to us for a woman to die due to complications from pregnancy or childbirth.”

In 2023, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revitalizing Nigeria’s health sector through significant investments and increased funding in the proposed 2024 budget.

The President noted this at the launch of the Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative and the signing of the Health Renewal Pact in Abuja.

In his remarks, he emphasized that better healthcare is the cornerstone of his “Renewed Hope” promise to Nigerians.

Kuje Regional Council Chairman Abdullahi Sabo described the intervention as laudable. He was represented by his chief of staff, Suleiman Sabo.

“We are happy that this important program comes to our domain. “We are truly delighted with the development projects of this administration,” said the president.

The organizers thanked Mr Tinubu for allowing them to embark on the program to ensure that a safe and healthy environment is established for all.

Kuje Gomo Haruna Jibrin also noted that the campaign was the first of its kind in the Kuje Area Council, “and we thank God for it.”
