EPL: Ten Hag Breaks Down Man Utd’s 3-0 Defeat to Tottenham

Must Read

Manchester United’s boss, Erik ten Hag, shared some mistakes his team made during their 3-0 loss to Tottenham on Sunday.

This defeat at home was their second in a row; they also lost 3-0 to Liverpool before.

Tottenham scored first when Micky van der Ven ran a long way to set up Brennan Johnson, who easily scored close to the goal.

Just three minutes before the break, United’s captain Bruno Fernandes got a red card for a tackle on James Maddison.

In the second half, Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke scored more goals.

Talking to BBC Match of the Day, Ten Hag said, “We let in a goal just after a few minutes, and it shocked our team. It didn’t need to happen. Their defender ran past most of our team and then their winger scored easily. We made a similar mistake earlier this week against Twente, and it should have been stopped right away.

“After that, we felt confused. We couldn’t make good passes or control the ball. We had some good plays, but after their goal, we couldn’t recover. We need to stay calm even if we make such mistakes.

“We had chances to score, with Joshua Zirkzee and Alejandro Garnacho, especially when we still had 11 players. Even after the red card, we had moments.

“We had our chances before halftime, and in the second half, even with 10 players, we still had chances. The red card really changed the game. I don’t think it deserved a red card.”

“First, we have to handle this loss and show we can come back stronger. This performance wasn’t good enough. We must accept it, improve, and focus on the next game to do better.”
