EPL: Parlour Reveals the Team That Overcame a 12-Point Deficit in 1997/98 to Win the League

Ray Parlour, who used to play for Arsenal, thinks the team can win their next big game against Liverpool.

Arsenal will play at home on Sunday against Liverpool. Both teams are doing pretty well in the league right now.

In the league, Liverpool is number one with 21 points. Arsenal is number three with 17 points.

Manchester City is in second place with 22 points. Arsenal fell a bit behind after losing 0-2 to Bournemouth last weekend.

Parlour told Goal that Arsenal can still try to win the big league trophy.

“Arsenal needs to get back on track after losing to Bournemouth,” he said.

He mentioned that Liverpool is also playing well but hasn’t played many tough teams, except for Chelsea.

If Liverpool wins, they will be seven points ahead of Arsenal. Parlour thinks Arsenal won’t want to fall that far behind.

Even if they lose, he added, “it doesn’t mean they can’t still win the league.”

He remembered, “Once, we [Arsenal] were 12 points behind in 1997/98, and no one thought we would win. We had to beat Manchester United at their place, and we did, 1-0,” he recalled.

“After that, we won 10 games straight and won the league with three games left. So, I don’t think Arsenal will worry no matter what happens on Sunday.

“For Liverpool, winning will make them think they can be the best team this year,” he explained.

“You can’t change the loss against Bournemouth, but if Arsenal beats Liverpool, everyone will forget about that game. It’s an important match, and I think Arsenal will do well,” said Parlour.
