EPL: Former Super Eagles Midfielder, Seyi Olofinjana Appointed to New Position at Chelsea

Must Read

Chelsea has hired Seyi Olofinjana for a new job focusing on finding talented football players in Africa, according to The Athletic.

In his new job, Olofinjana will help find and recommend good players from Africa for Chelsea. He will work with a new scout whose job is also to look for players in Africa.

Seyi Olofinjana, who is 44 years old, also works as the executive director of Imperial FC, a football club in Nigeria’s third division.

In the past, Olofinjana helped develop many football players in Nigeria, like Taiwo Awoniyi. Awoniyi joined Liverpool in 2015 and now plays for Nottingham Forest.

For many years, many great African players, like Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, and Mikel John Obi, have played very well for Chelsea.

However, Chelsea usually bought these players from other clubs after they had already moved to Europe.

This new project shows that Chelsea wants to find and train talented players from Africa at an earlier stage in their careers.
