Enyimba achieves latest victory in Aba as Rivers United share the spoils with El Kanemi

Must Read

Matchday 9 of the Nigerian Premier Football League concluded with exciting late upsets in several centers on Sunday.

The six matches produced five home wins, one draw and 13 goals.

Late winner in Aba

Enyimba FC earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Ikorodu City, thanks to a Moses Adiukwu header in the 92nd minute.

This victory marked Enyimba's return to winning ways after three games without a win.

Ikorodu City almost took an early lead but Shola Adelani's shot went narrowly wide in the fifth minute.

Enyimba's Ifeanyi Ihemekwele broke the deadlock in the sixth minute, thanks to expert preparation from Chukwudi Nwaodu.

Ikorodu City pushed for an equaliser, with a stunning strike from Tosin Oyedokun and a close-range strike from Emmanuel Solomon forcing Enyimba goalkeeper Henry Ozoemena into making crucial saves in the 30th minute.

A triple substitution in the 62nd minute paid off for Ikorodu City as Ajeyigbe Toyeeb equalized in the 89th minute.

However, Enyimba's Adiukwu regained the lead in the 92nd minute, securing all three points.

The victory keeps Enyimba third with 17 points, while Ikorodu City remains in 18th place with eight points.

The undefeated streak of Warriors and Rivers United continues

In Port Harcourt, Rivers United drew 1-1 against 10-man El Kanemi Warriors, extending both clubs' unbeaten streak to nine games. The Warriors scored first through Somalia Bello in the 31st minute, but Rivers United's Taofeek Olaniyi equalized three minutes later.

Gimbal Ajiji's red card in the 45th minute did not hamper the Warriors' determination.

Other games

In Lafia, Nasarawa United defeated Kano Pillars 1-0, thanks to Anas Yusuf's ninth goal of the season in the 41st minute.

Yusuf, the league's top scorer and a guest of the CHAN Eagles, continues to impress.

Elsewhere, Plateau United thrashed Sunshine Stars 3-0 in Jos, with a goal from Vincent Temitope in the 16th minute.

Sadiq Abubakar's goal in the 66th minute and his subsequent double late in the second half sealed the victory.

The victory propelled Plateau United to fourth position with 14 points, above Abia Warriors who shocked Bendel Insurance in Benin on Saturday.

Sunshine Stars are in seventh place with 13 points.

Shooting Stars claimed their second consecutive victory, defeating Akwa United 2-1 at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.

This victory took them to tenth position with 12 points.

Remo Stars failed to regain top spot after losing 1-0 to Heartland in Owerri.
