The Enugu division of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, took a woman named Blessing Amaka David-Agwa to court. She pretended to be a nurse who could help couples have babies. The court is in Enugu State, and the judge’s name is Justice Mohammed Garba Umar.
Blessing faced 45 different charges. These charges included pretending to be someone she is not, making fake documents, and tricking people out of N28,278,600.
When the charges were read, Blessing said she was not guilty of all of them. Because of this, the EFCC’s lawyer, Blessing N. Obasi, asked the court to set a date for the trial. She also asked that Blessing be kept in jail until the trial.
Blessing’s lawyer, G. C. Madubuegwu, told the judge they wanted her to get out on bail. Bail is when someone gets to leave jail but promises to come back for the trial. They had already asked for this on October 4, 2024.
Her lawyer used a part of the law called the Administration of Criminal Justice Act to make this request. He asked the judge to let her go with easy conditions.
But the EFCC’s lawyer, Obasi, did not agree. She said Blessing should stay in jail because what she did was very serious. It affected the people who thought she was a real nurse.
After hearing both sides, Judge Umar decided to think about it and tell everyone his decision on November 12, 2024.
Until then, Blessing had to stay in the Enugu jail.
