The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday produced a Chinese man, Zhengjia Jin, before the Lagos State Special Offenses Court in Ikeja for alleged bribery and fraud of N301 million.

Mr. Jin was indicted on four counts of retaining stolen property, bribery and theft.

EFCC lawyer Ahmad Usman told the court that the accused allegedly committed the offenses between March 5 and August 9 in Lagos.

He alleged that the accused dishonestly retained a total sum of N301 million in his account number 1861390260 domiciled with Access Bank, which belonged to Golden Diamond Industrial Manufacturing Company Ltd.

The prosecutor stated that the defendant, while working at the company, accepted such money directly into his bank account as bribes from suppliers, thus conferring an improper advantage on himself.

The prosecutor said the defendant's action was contrary to the conditions of service of the company's employees.

The anti-graft agency also stated that the accused dishonestly converted N301 million for his personal use.

According to the EFCC, the offenses contravene sections 83, 328 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2011 and sections 280 (2) and 287 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Defense lawyer, AC Ezenduka, informed the court of his client's bail application.

The judge adjourned the case until November 22 to hear the accused's bail application.
