The popular singer of Gospel, Mercy Chinwo, has filed a demand for N1.1 billion against the commentator of the social networks Martins Otse, popularly known as very Darkman for alleged defamation.
The lawsuit, dated March 3, follows the accusations made by MyDarkman in February, in which he accused Chinwo of diverting shows of shows without paying his old record label, owned by Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, also known as Eezee T.
In addition, he said the singer violated his contract with the label before his departure.
Chinwo's lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, described MyDarkman's comments as “defamation, malicious and harmful” for his reputation.
He argued that MyDarkman was not directly involved in the dispute between Chinwo and Eezee T, but the matter had misrepresented in a way that damaged his public image.
According to Olajengbesi, MyDarkman shared multiple videos with his vast audience, allegedly portraying Chinwo in a “cartoonist and disdainful” way while supporting the side of the Eezee T dispute. He said that these videos intended to ridicule the singer.
In the lawsuit, Olajengbesi declared: “The claimant affirms that she has not had any form of relationship with the defendant or the defendant involved in the issue between the claimant and Mr. Eezee T in any particular material.
“The claimant affirms that the statements that the defendant made in the videos he published on his Instagram page was as if the defendant was personally involved in the affairs between the claimant and Mr. Eezee T; However, these statements were not only false but condemnatory and harmful to the image and public reputation of the claimant. “
Chinwo is looking for a court order that forces MyDarkman to eliminate the alleged defamatory publications of all his social media platforms. His lawyer also demanded that MyDarkman issue a public retraction and an uninhancing apology in two broadly circulated national newspapers and on their social media platforms.

In addition, Olajengbesi is asking the court to grant N1 billion as general damage for defamation, N100 million as punitive and aggravated damage, N25 million as the cost of demand and interest of 10% in the sum of trial per year until the total payment.
He also requested that MyDarkman publishes apologies in four national newspapers for 14 consecutive days.
The demand occurs in the middle of a continuous dispute between Chinwo and Ezee T. Tribune online reports that the singer had accused him of exploitation, emitting threats against his life and spreading false rumors with respect to the fatherhood of his son.
