The State Security Corps, ESC, has announced the arrest of no less than 18 alleged kidnappers and thieves armed in the state.
Daily Post reports that the body commander, on Friday Ibadin, a police commissioner, revealed this in a statement issued in Benin City.
Ibadin declared that the suspects were arrested along the Benin-Auchi road, and 38 weapons, granules and several local manufacturing charms recovered from them.
He explained that the arrests were carried out during a shrub combination operation near the Equedion field, near the army control point along the Benin-Auchi road.
According to him, 17 of the suspects were non -indigenous of the state of Edo, while an indigenous was from the community agbedes in the area of the local government of Etsako West of the State.
“On February 14, 2025, while Patrol along the Benin-Auchi road near the Eguedion camp, near the control point of the soldiers, two people were seen holding weapons. When detecting my men, they fled. They were persecuted to a camp, where 18 suspects were arrested.
“Seventeen of the 18 arrested suspects are not indigenous, while one is an indigenous of the Agbede community. In the process, 38 weapons and charms totally loaded locally were recovered, ”he said.
Ibadin also declared that the suspects had been delivered to the Divisional Police officer at the Agbede Police Station. He also requested a closer collaboration between the body and other security agencies in the state.
By emphasizing the need for a concerted effort to free the state of criminal elements, he said that his staff would continue combing the bushes and sensitizing the premises to ensure that the forests are clear from criminals, which makes the State safe for all for all .
He also reassured the residents of the state government's commitment to provide an enabling environment, particularly during this year's agricultural season.
He affirmed that his men would continue to intensify efforts to ensure that Edo State is completely undone of criminals.
The body commander said that the arrest of the 18 suspects occurred a few days after the governor of the state of Edo State shrubs are safe for farmers, residents and the public general.
