The troubled Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, spoke about how Senator Adams Oshiomhole persuaded him to support Governor Godwin Obaseki. Shaibu said Oshiomhole took three months to convince him.
Shaibu explained that Obaseki wasn’t a politician and didn’t have enough money to run for governor.
Shaibu and Obaseki have had many disagreements. Because of this, the state House of Assembly tried to remove Shaibu from his position.
But then, the Federal Capital Territory High Court stepped in and said Shaibu could keep his job. After that, he went back to work.
While talking on Channels Television’s Politics Today show, Shaibu said: “Obaseki was not a politician. He didn’t have enough money to run for the election. Oshiomhole introduced him to us, but some of us found it hard to accept him at first.
“Oshiomhole spent three months convincing me and our supporters to back Obaseki.
“Finally, because we respected Oshiomhole, we decided to support Obaseki. Obaseki didn’t bring any money – we used our own money, and our friends also helped. We used our influence to make him governor.
“So, if we talk about who made who, it wasn’t Obaseki who made me; I helped him become governor.”
