A human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has strongly criticized the Nigerian Presidency for using its official social media account to support Monday Okpebholo.
Okpebholo is the candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming governor election in Edo State.
Effiong said that the APC has damaged every important institution in Nigeria.
This issue arose when the Presidency posted on its official social media account. The post mentioned that Vice President Kashim Shettima was urging the people of Edo State to vote for Okpebholo to create a better functioning state.
The post read, “Vote Okpebholo to create a working State,” Vice President Kashim Shettima urges Edo citizens.
It also mentioned, “The state will gain from positive changes with increased federal support.”
However, Effiong, who cares about the public’s interest, said using the official government account for election campaigns is very wrong.
He called it a clear example of the government overstepping its boundaries.
Effiong added, “This is terrible but not shocking. The APC has spoiled many important institutions in our country.
“Using an official government account for election campaigns is very wrong. It shows the government taking over in an unfair way.”
