President Bola Tinubu has sent his congratulations to Senator Monday Okpebholo, who ran for governor in Edo State under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and won the election on Saturday.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced on Sunday that Senator Okpebholo won the race, beating other candidates.
Through his spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised APC leaders and governors for their hard work in securing the win.
President Tinubu said this victory shows that people support the ruling party and its plans to make life better for Nigerians.
He reminded Senator Okpebholo not to brag about his win, but to see it as a call to serve the people.
He advised the new governor to be kind and reach out to his political opponents, working together to develop Edo State.
President Tinubu also thanked other candidates who ran for their efforts in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy. He said peaceful elections, like the one on Saturday, prove that Nigeria has a stable democracy.
President Tinubu encouraged anyone unhappy with the election results to use legal means to address their concerns.
According to Onanuga, President Tinubu commended the people of Edo State for voting in a peaceful manner, showing how Nigeria’s democracy has grown over 25 years.
The President also praised INEC and security agencies for their hard work in making sure the election was successful and peaceful. “INEC has shown once again that it is dedicated to holding free and fair elections in our country,” he said.
