Edo Gubernatorial Election: Obaseki Urges Governor-Elect Okpebholo to Form Transition Team

Must Read

Only thirty days are left before Governor Godwin Obaseki finishes his job as the leader of Edo State. He has asked the new leader, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to create a team to help with the change.

This team will work with the current governor’s team to make sure everything goes smoothly when power changes hands.

According to the news from DAILY POST, Joseph Eboigbe, who works with the state government, made this announcement on Sunday from Benin City.

The news said that Governor Obaseki will finish his eight-year term on November 12, 2024. He will pass the leadership to Senator Monday Okpebholo from the All Progressives Congress (APC). Okpebholo won the election on September 21, 2024.

Okpebholo got 291,667 votes and beat 17 other people who wanted the same job. His nearest opponent, Asue Ighodalo from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), got 247,274 votes.

In a letter written on October 10, 2024, to the new leader, Eboigbe said that having a team would help both sides share important information to make the changeover easy and keep the government working without problems.

He said, “As we get ready for you to take over, it is important to work together well. We invite you and your party, the APC, to form your team as soon as possible.”

“This will let us talk about meaningful things and share important information to ensure the government continues without interruption.”

“We promise to give you all the support you need to make this switch as smooth as possible. We suggest having the first meeting on October 14, 2024, for the members of both teams.”

“We are excited to get your quick reply and look forward to working together with your team in the next few weeks. Together, we can lay the groundwork for a successful leadership that people will be happy with.”

Eboigbe mentioned the letter was received by Mr. Joy Oyere, a secretary in the Edo State Chapter of the APC, but they have not answered yet.

DAILY POST noted that back in July 2024, Governor Obaseki set up a team of 20 people, led by Joseph Eboigbe, to ensure the handover of power is smooth and that all the important knowledge is passed to the new leaders.
