Great News: All Trapped UNIBEN Students Rescued

The Edo State Government has shared some great news. All students from the University of Benin (UNIBEN) who were stuck in a collapsed three-story building have been saved.

A spokesperson for the government, Crusoe Osagie, told reporters in Benin City about the rescue.

Osagie confirmed that thankfully, no one died in the accident. The government is now looking into why the building fell down.

The officials also want to check other buildings in the area to make sure they are safe.

Here’s what happened: The building, located on Ekhator Street near the University of Benin, collapsed recently. Emergency teams quickly went to the site to save the students.

“All trapped students are now safe and are getting medical help,” Osagie said.

He shared that rescue teams from the Edo State Fire Service and other local groups arrived fast. They confirmed that, at the moment, nobody has died.

Heavy machines like excavators are at the site to clear away the broken building pieces.

The state is also checking other nearby buildings to make sure they won’t fall down too.

The government thanks all the rescue teams and community helpers who acted quickly to assist.

Meanwhile, the University of Benin shared another update. Three students were saved from the fallen building and are now recovering in the hospital.

The university spokesperson, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, said the building fell after heavy rains on Saturday morning.

“Two of the students were sent to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) for extra care,” she noted.

The rescue team included staff from security, fire service departments, the health center, students, and police. They did a great job helping the students.

The University of Benin wishes the students a quick recovery and thanks the rescue team for their brave efforts.
