A fire incident that involved a petrol oil tanker and an articulated truck on the Oko-Polow-Jebba road in the state of Kwara, on Friday morning a man and a dog claimed.
The truck driver, identified as Wasiu, died in the incident.
The incident occurred in the village of Iymaja along the Oko -olowo road -hebba at approximately 20: 27 hours.
According to a statement from the state firewater service spokesman, Hassan Adekunle, in Ilorin on Friday, “the petrol oil company transported 33,000 liters of Premium motor spirit (PM), while the articulated truck driven by a Wasiu, was loaded with fertilizer.”
He said: “Upon arrival, the Firefighters immediately took measures to contain the fire and avoid more damage, adding that their rapid intervention said the charge of fertilizers was rescued.
“Preliminary investigations indicated that the incident occurred when the articulated truck tried to overcome the petrol oil.
“In the process, he hit the back of the oil tanker, causing a fuel spill that lit, tragically, the driver of the articulated truck that was trapped, lost his life.”
The director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, urged all road users to exercise patience, adhere to safety precautions and prioritize road safety to avoid such devastating incidents.
