Denmark is changing the rules for foreign workers who want to live and work there. These changes start on September 1, 2024.
According to TravelBiz, all salary statements and job contracts must be in Danish kroner (DKK). This is the money used in Denmark.
The Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration, also called SIRI, has updated its rules about how salaries should be stated.
Why This Change?
From September 1, 2024, foreign workers need to show their salary in DKK. This is to make sure they meet Danish standards for their jobs.
This applies to all job contracts and different work programs, like the Pay Limit Scheme and the Fast Track Scheme.
SIRI says they will no longer accept salaries listed in foreign currencies. If a salary is in another currency, it must be converted to DKK and included as extra paperwork.
For a foreign worker to get a residence and work permit, they need to make sure their salary and job conditions meet Danish standards. This includes:
- Full-Time Work: Most work programs require full-time jobs, usually 37-40 hours a week.
- What’s Included in the Salary: The fixed salary, pension contributions, and holiday pay are all included in the salary check.
- What’s Not Included: Income that is not certain, like commissions or bonuses, will not be considered.
- Salary, Holiday, and Notice Terms: These must meet Danish standards for that profession.
- Salary Assessment in DKK: The salary check will be in Danish kroner.
If a worker needs to extend a permit that was given before the new rules start, salaries in foreign currencies will be accepted. They will use the exchange rate from Denmark’s National Bank.
Important Information
Denmark also updated their salary limits last month. From July 1, 2024, the minimum salary will be DKK 71,020.83 for various work programs.
