Delta State Government Claims Opposition Parties Unprepared for Recent Local Government Election

Must Read

The Delta State Government has said that other political parties were not ready for last Saturday’s local government elections in the state.

The opposition parties are saying that the election was unfair and want it to be canceled.

Governor’s spokesperson, Festus Ahon, talked to reporters on Tuesday in Asaba and said these claims are not true and even silly. He feels the calls for canceling the election are ridiculous.

He explained that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) keeps winning because of the good programs and projects they have done since 1999.

Ahon said the All Progressive Congress, APC, and the Labour Party, LP, not only fielded candidates but also did not campaign. He stressed that the PDP was the only party that campaigned all over the state.

He added: “I thank Deltans for coming out in large numbers to vote for the PDP. I also thank God for the peaceful elections throughout Delta State.

“I challenge the Labour Party to tell Deltans and Nigerians how many candidates they had in the election and where they campaigned? You can’t expect people to vote for you just because you belong to the Labour Party. You have to tell people what you will do for them. You can’t stay at home and expect votes.

“Our government will stay focused. We won’t let opposition parties distract us.

“Here is someone who couldn’t even win in his own community in the last governorship election, now saying that PDP rigged the local government elections. Where were they when we were campaigning all over Delta?

“Deltans love PDP because of what the government has been doing for them since 1999.”

Ahon also said Governor Oborevwori has gained the people’s trust by doing a good job, and this helped the party win the local government elections.

“In the last year, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration has improved roads, healthcare, education, and created jobs for over 3,000 teachers and staff in primary schools. Deltans trust us and love the PDP, and we won’t let them down,” Ahon added.

He praised the PDP council chairmen and their deputies as people of great integrity and asked them to focus on human capital and infrastructure development in line with Governor Oborevwori’s MORE agenda.

He also advised the newly sworn-in officials at the local government level to avoid conflicts, as progress cannot happen in a divided environment.

Finally, he praised the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) and security operatives for their professionalism, which made the election credible.
