Delta Police Arrest Five Kidnapping Suspects, Recover Weapons

The Police in Delta State, Nigeria, caught five people who were involved in kidnapping. This happened in Ughelli South area.

The police spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, told reporters in Warri on Tuesday that the arrests took place last Thursday. The police found the suspects hiding in a place in Ewu town, Ughelli South.

Mr. Edafe said the police got a secret tip and a special team went to catch the suspects.

When questioned, the suspects said they had kidnapped a 70-year-old woman. They let her go after getting N7.9 million as ransom.

“On September 12, 2024, our special team went to a place where criminals were hiding in Ewu town. They arrested five people,” said Edafe.

“The suspects admitted they had robbed and kidnapped people in Ughelli. They said they kidnapped a 70-year-old woman on September 8. They got N7.9 million before freeing her.” Edafe shared.

The police found some things with the suspects: one single barrel gun, three homemade guns, and N450,000 cash.

They also found two Point of Sales (PoS) machines and some packets of dried plants that looked like marijuana.

Edafe said the suspects are being held by the police while they keep investigating.
