Customs’ Operation Whirlwind Confiscates 94,550 Liters of Petrol

Must Read

The Nigeria Customs Service, through their Operation Whirlwind, has stopped some sneaky business. They found 94,550 liters of petrol that people were trying to take out of Nigeria secretly.

These big tanks filled with petrol were caught at the edges of our country, at places where Nigeria touches other countries. Some folks tried to take them out, but they got stopped!

Big boss of the customs, Mr. Bashir Adeniyi, told everyone about this in Yola, a town in Adamawa State, on a Wednesday. He said they caught all this petrol after they already told everyone about catching smugglers back in June.

Back on June 10, 2024, the customs staff had a big meeting in Yola. There, they told everyone about their new special team that had caught even more petrol last time, a whole 150,950 liters worth a lot of money!

During this Wednesday talk, another customs boss, Mr. Olaniyi Olajugun, said this new find shows they are working hard to stop these sneaky petrol movers.

“Today, we want to show what our team has done to stop people who try to hurt our factories and businesses.”

Earlier, at the Customs office in Yola, Mr. Hussein Keinde, the leader of Operation Whirlwind, said catching these petrol movers is a big win against bad guys who hurt Nigeria’s money plans.

“Smuggling hurts us all, and we need smart tips to catch these sneaky groups,” he explained.

Mr. Bashir Kafur, who makes sure people follow petrol rules in Adamawa, spoke too. He had a warning for those sellers who break the rules: “Adamawa people need their own petrol, not people from outside trying to take it away,” he said sternly.

He also warned, “If we catch you trying to sneak petrol away, we will close your shop. We are watching you, so don’t do it.”

Here’s a look at some of the petrol tanks the customs stopped from being sneaked out of Nigeria.
