Customs Catch Smugglers with Over 41,000 Litres of Petrol

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has taken a big catch! They stopped bad guys from taking 41,425 litres of petrol. This happened near the borders of Adamawa and Cameroon.

The man in charge, Comptroller Hussein Ejibunu, talked about it on Wednesday in Yola. He said they also took nine cars from the smugglers. These weren’t regular cars; they had hidden tanks to carry petrol.

Between May and now, customs grabbed a lot of petrol. At a meeting in Yola, Ejibunu said, “Today, we caught 1,481 kegs (Jerry cans) and 20 drums. They had 25 litres each or 220 litres each. This adds up to 41,425 litres of petrol!”

These petrol cans and cars were found on roads like Mubi-Sahuda, Girei-Wuro Boki, Maiha, and others.

Ejibunu said this petrol is worth about N48,547,500. They made these catches on different days and places.

The Customs team is called “Operation Whirlwind.” They work with NMDPRA. They check that petrol goes from depots to where it’s supposed to go, like petrol stations.
