Residents of Obudu LGA of Cross River State have expressed outrage against Mathias Amunde who, along with his friend, murdered his own mother on Christmas Day last year.

Police personnel from the Obudu Divisional Command tracked down and arrested Mathias and his friend, whose name was Marcus.

Mathias, 29, confessed that he and Marcus used hammers and boards to repeatedly hit his mother on the head until she died.

“Marcus and I used a hammer and a stick to hit her on the head in our house.

“We shaved her hair, tied her hands and dragged her to a nearby well,” he said.

Mathias added that they then took his mother's hair to a shrine so they could perform monetary rituals that would allow him to become rich.

The people of Obudu condemned his action and asked the authorities not to spare the culprits.

One Mr. Paul Adoga said the man has no justification for killing his mother for any reason.

Commenting on his Facebook page, Joe Boy attributed the development to peer pressure.

On the other hand, Victor Akpasen advised that parents raise their children with the fear of God.

Mr. Akuso Kusam Bahogo, a social influencer, urged people to pray to God to grant them the grace to be content with what they have.

Meanwhile, the police also arrested the operator of the sanctuary.

Police PRO Irene Ugbo said all the suspects are awaiting trial.
