The APGA group, which is a political party, has written a letter to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC). They are concerned about the actions of some top lawyers and believe they did wrong things that lawyers of their level should not do.
This letter talks about three lawyers: Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, Mr. P. I. N. Ikwueto, and Mr. Victor Agunzi. APGA wants these lawyers to be checked out by LPDC to see if they have indeed made mistakes.
The letter says that these lawyers, who work with Chief Victor Ike Oye, have not been listening to what the court says. They are accused of ignoring the decisions made by the highest court in the land.
APGA has been having a hard time ever since Mr. Edozie Njoku became in charge of the party. His leadership was questioned by a court case back in 2021.
The letter also accuses the senior lawyers of giving bad advice to their client. APGA says this causes their client to keep breaking court rules, trying to change who is really in charge of the party.
Instead of following court rules and showing respect for the law, these lawyers are said to be doing things that make the court system look bad.
The letter points out that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already listened to what the court said. It involved several actions, such as:
a. A person was pretending to be the APGA leader, even though the court said he shouldn’t.
b. An order was given to stop a second person from working with the first person mentioned.
c. Everyone involved must follow the court’s decision as shown in some important documents.
d. Any actions taken by these people, which go against the court’s decision, are completely wrong and should not count.
The letter also claims that even with cases already in the highest courts, like the Supreme Court, these lawyers are still trying new cases in other courts, which is not right.
The letter explains that by doing this, these lawyers are trying to make the court system look silly, which they should not be allowed to do.
APGA emphasizes that legal cases should come to an end at some point. They believe that lawyers should guide their clients to respect the law, not help them break it.
APGA’s complaint is about lawyers not keeping the respect and ideals of the legal profession in mind. They hope the LPDC will take steps to make sure lawyers do their job properly and honestly.
