Court Disqualifies All NNPP Candidates Just a Day Before Kano LG Elections

Must Read

There’s some new drama happening with the elections in Kano State! On Friday, a court said that 44 people the ruling party, NNPP, picked to run in the local government elections can’t take part anymore.

Judge Simon Amobede made this decision after a disagreement in the NNPP. A group in the party, led by Dalhatu Shehu Usman, took the case to court.

The judge told this group to give their list of candidates to Kano State’s election officials, known as KANSIEC, to be checked and approved.

The people involved in this case included Nigeria’s main election body (INEC), Kano State’s election officials (KANSIEC), the police, and the security service, DSS.

On October 8, 2024, the case started. The judge stopped INEC from giving the voter list to KANSIEC for the election.

The court also told KANSIEC to accept the candidate list from the group led by Dalhatu Shehu Usman.

“INEC must not give the voter list to KANSIEC for the election happening on October 26, 2024,” the judge said.

“KANSIEC must accept the list of candidates from Dalhatu Shehu Usman’s group as the real one, according to NNPP’s rules, and reject any other list for the 2024 local elections in Kano State.”

“Police and DSS are not allowed to provide security for the election planned for October 26, 2024.”
