Court Convicts Two Brothers and 33 Others for Internet Fraud in Ibadan

Must Read

The EFCC office in Ibadan caught two brothers, Samuel and Charles Adeboye, along with 33 other people, for doing bad stuff on the internet.

They all had separate charges like pretending to be someone else, lying to get money, keeping money from their bad deeds, and having fake papers.

EFCC shared that Judges Ladiran Akintola, Bayo Taiwo, and O.S. Adeyemi found them guilty in the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan.

Each person admitted they did the bad thing. Because they told the truth, the lawyers—Modupe Akinkoye, Oluwatoyin Owodunni, Chidi Okoli, Sanusi Galadanchi, Lanre Suleiman, Shamsuddeen Bashir, and Mabas Mabur—asked the court to punish them.

Charges and Results

Samuel was charged for pretending to be James Jonathan to trick Wendy Rose on June 8, 2024. He knew he was lying, which is a crime in Oyo State.

His brother, Charles, helped internet cheaters in July 2018. He helped a friend, Olowooye David, move money from this cheating and got N200,000 from it. This is against the law.

Other people found guilty of internet cheating are:

  • Oluwadamilola Michael Omotayo
  • Boluwatife Ajewole Alaran
  • Mudashiru Oluwatobi Oyebamiji
  • Adelayi Adetunji Wellington
  • Omodayo Obatomiwa Adedayo
  • Adubi Oluwatimileyin Abiola
  • Michael Olalekan Akintola
  • Ayomide Temitope Adekunle
  • Abdulganiyu Sakiru Adebayo

Punishment

Judge Ladiran Akintola said both Adeboye brothers should go to jail for one year. But Samuel could pay N100,000 instead, and Charles could pay N30,000 instead.

Others, like Oluwadamilola and Boluwatife, got different sentences. Some got a year in jail but could pay fines from N50,000 to N500,000. Others had to do work for the community.

Judges Akintola, Taiwo, and Adeyemi also made sure that these people gave up all the fancy things they bought from the money they got by cheating, like cars such as Lexus, Toyota Camry, Mercedes Benz, and Acura models.

Giving Up Their Stuff

Besides jail or fines, they had to give up things bought with stolen money to the government. For example:

  • Ademola, Oyebamiji, Adeola, and Alaba lost four Lexus cars.
  • Victor and Samuel lost two Toyota Camry cars.
  • Ayobami gave up a Mercedes Benz, and Sunday lost an Acura.
