Court adjourns murder trial of Ebonyi council chairman

An Abakaliki State High Court on Thursday fixed October 17 to decide on a decision filed by a lawyer, Emeka Uwakwe, in the trial of Emmanuel Ajah, Chairman of Ivo Local Government Area of ​​Ebonyi State, for alleged armed robbery, kidnapping and murder. .

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Ajah and eight other suspects were accused of robbing Pauline Osita of her N2 million, her phone and other valuables on January 17, 2017.

The accused were also accused of kidnapping Catherine Okorie on January 18, 2017 and allegedly killing her on January 22 of the same year.

The other eight accused are Chibuike Okereke, Mathew Ogbudike, Ezenwa Nwafor, Okoro Ugochukwu, Kelechukwu Azubike, John Nwankwor, Chigozie Okereke and Obichi Uzoigwe.

The lawyer, Mr Uwakwe, was authorized by the Attorney General of Ebonyi State, Ben Odoh, to conduct the trial.

However, the defense attorney opposed the initial prosecutor's decision to take over the case.

The defense team, comprising CN Mgbada, CA Okenu, Ifeanyi Igwe and J. N Unah, opposed Uwakwe becoming part of the prosecution.

“The reason is that he was a member of the defense lawyers and had been in the matter from the beginning to date.

“We urge the court to reject the document on Uwakwe's fiduciary application,” the lawyers said.

The judge, Elvis Ngene, after argument adjourned the matter to October 17, November 21 and November 28 to rule on Mr. Ajah's motion to take over the continuation of the trial.
