An Abuja court decided to free a 21-year-old laborer named Zaradeen Sani who was accused of stealing four batteries worth N600,000. This happened on a Thursday at the Karu Magistrates’ Court.
The judge, Lami Ogohi, let Sani go because the prosecutor, Steven Osho, said the person who complained, Mr. Adoro Augustine, was no longer interested in the case.
Sani, who lives in Nape Junction Apo, Abuja, was accused of breaking into someone’s property and taking things without permission.
The judge said, “After hearing that the person who complained is no longer interested, we are ending this case. The defendant (Sani) is free from all charges, and we are withdrawing the initial report.”
Earlier in the case, the prosecutor explained that Mr. Augustine reported the theft at the Apo Police Station on August 4.
He said that on that day, at 3:00 a.m., Sani and two other people broke into Mr. Augustine’s house without his permission. They took four big batteries worth N600,000 and ran away.
Eventually, the police caught Sani. During the investigation, Sani admitted he took the batteries. Because of his statement, the police were able to find two of the stolen batteries.
Osho also explained that Sani’s friends, who haven’t been caught yet, took the remaining batteries.
The prosecutor mentioned that Sani’s actions broke the rules of Sections 79, 287, and 348 of the Penal Code.
