CONYL praises NDLEA president for fight against drug abuse

The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL), the umbrella body of all youth groups spread across the six geopolitical zones, has expressed its sincere appreciation and admiration for the tireless efforts of the Chairman and CEO of the National Fighting Agency against drugs. (NDLEA), Brig. General Buba Marwa (rtd), in the fight and eradication of drug abuse in Nigeria.

The youth body said Marwa's leadership and unwavering commitment to this cause has had a profound impact, adding that the positive changes that have taken place under his leadership are evident.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Owerri by the President General of CONYL, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, he said the arrest of 18,500 suspected drug traffickers and seizure of 2.6 million kilograms of illicit drugs in 2024 by the NDLEA is the first of this type. since the agency was created.

The PG described it as a ground-breaking achievement and said the measures the NDLEA has taken to promote awareness, provide resources for recovery and support those who have struggled with addiction have undoubtedly saved lives and changed the future.

He said: “The NDLEA led by General Marwa's vision of a drug-free environment has inspired many, and his tireless determination to ensure the success of anti-drug initiatives has helped reduce the devastating effects of drugs and drug abuse. substances. General Marwa has restored the integrity of the nation among the community of nations.”

The organization recognized that the president has restored the confidence of international anti-drug agencies such as the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), which is evident in the support provided to the NDLEA to succeed in its fight against illicit drugs.

According to him, the donation of the Central Exhibition Office in Ikoyi, Lagos, to the NDLEA by the American government is a confirmation that the NDLEA is at the top in the fight against drug abuse.

CONYL praised the agency's ability to foster a sense of unity and purpose in the fight against drug abuse.

He said: “The current leadership has not only created a safe environment but has also empowered people to overcome their challenges. It is through the efforts of the NDLEA that many have been able to find hope, healing and a better future.”

The body expressed its deepest gratitude for the remarkable contributions of the NDLEA in saving some young Nigerians whose future would have been destroyed by drug abuse.

They say the agency's dedication to this important cause is truly inspiring, adding that they are confident that its service to humanity will continue to benefit countless people for years to come.

CONYL expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Brig. General Buba Marwa to run such an important agency, adding that he has done very well and is a round peg in a round hole.

He said: “We appreciate and thank Brig. General Buba Marwa and his team for their unwavering commitment to the eradication of drug abuse and for being a true leader in the fight against drug abuse.”

The body called on the general public to support the efforts of the NDLEA to eradicate drug abuse in the society by providing useful information to the agency to better serve Nigerians.
