CNPP Wants NNPC Boss Mele Kyari Suspended Right Away
The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) wants the boss of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari, to take a break from his job immediately.
CNPP is upset about recent problems at NNPC. They talked about this in a statement they gave to journalists on Sunday. They also want someone to check (or investigate) if there was cheating with fuel subsidies, bad quality imports, and the poor job done at the Port Harcourt refinery.
James Ezema, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of CNPP, signed the statement. He said NNPC is making life harder for Nigerians by removing fuel subsidies.
“We need to check if NNPC did wrong things by suspending Mele Kyari and finding out the truth about the fuel subsidy scam and other problems,” the statement read.
Recently, the price of petrol went up from N167 to around N700 per litre. CNPP says this price hike didn’t help the petrol shortage. Now, people in Nigeria are having a tough time.
Even though petrol costs more, it is still hard to find. CNPP says Mele Kyari’s leadership is full of problems and hasn’t fixed anything.
“Mele Kyari’s time as boss has been full of problems, and he hasn’t solved any. This means he shouldn’t continue in his job,” CNPP said.
CNPP also pointed out something very bad. They called it the “subsidy scam.” They mentioned the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido, who said that people at NNPC don’t want to stop this scam because it makes them a lot of money.
CNPP is worried about bad-quality petroleum products coming into Nigeria. These are dangerous for people’s health and safety.
“Bringing in bad petroleum products is risky for the health and safety of Nigerians,” CNPP said.
CNPP also talked about the Port Harcourt Refinery. They said a lot of money has been spent on fixing it, but it still doesn’t work well. This shows NNPC’s poor management.
“We have spent so much money on the Port Harcourt Refinery, but it’s still not working right. This shows how badly NNPC is managed,” CNPP stated.
