As Nigerian Christians join the rest of the world in commemorating the 2024 Christmas celebration, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC} Marshal Shehu Mohammed has called on motorists to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations so that the celebration is peaceful and trouble-free.
This was contained in a statement made to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday by Olusegun Ogungbemide, Assistant Corps Marshal Public Education Officer.
According to the statement, the Corps Marshal made the warning in his Christmas message in which he reaffirmed his previous commitment to creating a safer road environment during Christmas.
The Corps Marshal called on Nigerians to be reflective during this period of intense human and vehicular movements to avoid any road mishap that could undermine the annual celebration.
According to him, “We have tasked our staff to ensure free flow of traffic and death-free Christmas celebrations. “All workforce and logistics will be mobilized to all identified black spots and will remain there until January 15, 2025. This is to ensure that all those who traveled home for Christmas and New Year return safely.”

The Corps Marshal called on Nigerians to join the FRSC in the ongoing campaign for a safer road environment. He also urged Christians to offer special prayers in their various churches as they celebrate the birth of Christ. “As you worship in your various Churches, it is imperative that you pray especially for peace and security. Always show consideration for all road users. The goal is to arrive safely at our destinations,” he stated.
The Corps Marshal further urged road users to tune into the National Traffic Radio FRSC, 107.1 FM to receive traffic alerts and updates. “In cases of emergency, Nigerians are requested to dial the national emergency number: 122 as the call center will remain open during the festive period and beyond to handle all distress calls.”
Let us remember that FRSC annually deploys human and material resources along the country's main corridors to manage the increase in traffic expected during Christmas and the New Year. This year's special operation, called “Operation Zero Tolerance”, which began on December 15, 2024, is expected to last until January 15, 2025.
