The Adamawa Government has announced that there is an outbreak of cholera in the state. Sadly, 12 people have died so far.
The State Commissioner for Health, Felix Tangwami, shared this news in Yola on Sunday. Out of 50 people who were tested, 30 had cholera.
Mr. Tangwami said that six people died in the hospital, while six died at home. About 308 people were admitted to the hospital, and 244 have been treated and sent home.
“I want to let you all know that the results from the samples we sent to the NCDC are back. It is confirmed that we have cholera here,” he said.
“Out of the 50 samples we sent to the National Reference Laboratory in Abuja, 30 tested positive for cholera. Six were negative, two are still being tested, and 12 are waiting in isolation.
“So, I confirm that there is a cholera outbreak in Adamawa.
“People should be careful about their movements, who they talk to, how clean they are, and the water they drink.
“The government is doing all it can to handle this, as we have done in the past with other outbreaks. Please, pray for us and stay calm. Listen to the health workers when they come around to give advice,” he said.
